New Free Resource Helps Adults Who Need to Learn to Read

Please visit GCFLearnFree.org, a free online computer and life skills training site, to develop a Reading Program to help struggling adult readers become more proficient with the most common words in the English language. The program is built upon the 1,000 most popular words.

The Letter Explorer allows the learner to choose a letter and then see and hear words that contain that letter. The Word Explorer allows the learner to pick a category of words, such as sports, and then see a group of words that fits that category. Learners can click on the word to either watch a video about the word, see a picture representing the word, or hear it pronounced. The Text Explorer allows the learner to select a category of words and hear a large section of text about the word. The Video Explorer gives the learner the option of seeing a video that defines the word. Finally, the Activities section contains game-like word activities.

GCFLearnFree.org also offers free computer training from computer basics through all of the Microsoft Office programs. A comprehensive work and career section offers tutorials on resume and cover letter writing and interview skills.
